“After careful consideration, the Minister of Natural Resources and I have agreed to bring forward a regulation making Highland Companies subject to the requirements of the Environmental Assessment Act. As a result the company will be required to undertake a comprehensive Environmental Assessment for the proposed quarry in Melancthon Township. Continue reading

Ontario’s Heritage Places of Worship

Places of Worship are under ongoing threat for demolition and badly need a strategy for protection.

 The Ontario Heritage Trust has begun a major inventory of Ontario’s Places of Worship of 25 years and older. In addition the Ministry of Tourism and Culture is consulting on a draft guide for the conservation and protection of heritage places of worship in Ontario. Continue reading

F.U.N. Survey: Development is Top Issue!

F.U.N. has released the results of its recent survey of Ontario community groups. 128 groups representing 18 of the province’s most populous municipalities responded. The top five issues were:

  1. development
  2. managing growth
  3. traffic and transportation
  4. parkland
  5. politicians’ accountability
